Learning WordPress

I keep reading and hearing about how awesome WordPress is as a blog engine so I finally gave in and decided to add WordPress in my toolbox of knowledge. There is so much information online on this trendy blogging engine that anyone can learn and become a WordPress designer and developer in no time.

This is my first WordPress blog which is based on a theme I created code named WP Orange. It will by my little social experiment and digital playground.

One of the most important foundations that you need to learn and understand is the The Loop. This loop displays each post in your WordPress blog. Take the loop out and WordPress would just be plain toast without the butter so to speak.

Find out more about The Loop from WordPress Codex.

WordPress.com vs WordPress.org

I’m almost positive I’m not the only one who got confused by this. WordPress.com is where you can sign up and register for your own WordPress blog which will be hosted on their own servers. You will be able to tweak your WordPress themes to certain degrees but it is limited.

WordPress.org on the other hand is where you can download the WordPress blog engine and install it yourself on your pc as a local host or on 3rd party web hosting service providers. Having it this way grants you full admin access to your blog including the freedom to tweak your very own WordPress themes.

TOP 6 WORDPRESS RESOURCES FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

Now I’m sure there are many more other quality resources out there but this list in my opinion has enough information to get you started.

1. WordPress Codex

2. WPdesigner.com

3. WPbeginner.com

4. Digging Into WordPress

5. CSS-TRICKS

6. Rockable Press

This is my humble beginning as a WordPress blogger, designer and developer. I have so much more to learn and discover.

If you have any tips and tricks you would like to add on this list please leave your comments.

Nice shortlist of WordPress resources. WPbeginner is a good start and Digging Into WordPress has some awesome stuff.

I’ve been using WordPress since pre-2.0 and keep recommending it, not just for blogs but as a CMS platform as well.

BTW helluva job on your first WordPress theme … would love to see more.
